Xucun Pagoda

Xucun Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

Xucun Pagoda, dating back to the Song Dynasty, is located in Xucun Village, Huangkeng Town, Nanxiong City, Shaoguan.

Xucun Pagoda was built in the sixth year of the Shaosheng era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1099). It is a five-story pavilion-style structure made of blue bricks, with a hexagonal floor plan. The spire has been destroyed, and the remaining height is twenty-one meters. The northeast side of the second through fifth stories has collapsed by one-third. The base perimeter measures twenty-one point six meters, with a diameter of six point three five meters. The pagoda was constructed using blue bricks measuring thirty-two centimeters in length, sixteen centimeters in width, and six or four centimeters in thickness. The brick joints are irregularly staggered and bonded with yellow mud mortar. Each level features brick-carved wooden architectural elements such as architraves, purlins, corner posts, and brackets, with horn-shaped and eave tiles layered to form the overhanging eaves. The second to fifth stories each have one real door, while the other sides feature false doors.

In 1973, a Northern Song Dynasty Jingde Yuanbao coin was discovered in the brick joints of the pagoda, confirming its construction during the Northern Song era. Renovation work was carried out in the spring of 2006.

The pagoda was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Nanxiong County in May 1982.

Xucun Village: The Xucun Village Committee is located in the western part of Huangkeng Town, Nanxiong City, twenty-one kilometers from the city center and two kilometers from the town government. It comprises five natural villages and twelve village groups, with cement-paved roads now largely connecting all groups. The village hosts a modern tobacco agriculture demonstration base, a radio station, and a distance education network. There are 545 households and a total population of 2,312 people, cultivating 2,362 mu of arable land, including 1,814 mu of paddy fields and 548 mu of dry land.
