Little Bamboo Pagoda

Little Bamboo Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

Also known as Little Bamboo Waist Pagoda, or simply Little Bamboo Pagoda, it is located in Xiaozhu Village, Jiangtou Town, Nanxiong City, Shaoguan. It is a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.

Built during the Song Dynasty, the pagoda is a six-sided, five-story hollow brick pavilion-style structure. Its finial has been destroyed, and its current height is either 18 meters or, according to some sources, 9.1 meters. The original wooden staircase inside the pagoda has been lost.

The pagoda faces east and has a hexagonal floor plan, being a five-story brick pavilion-style structure. It is now quite damaged, with only three stories remaining, and a current approximate height of 9 meters. The pagoda is constructed from blue bricks measuring 24 cm in length, 10 cm in width, and 4 cm in thickness. The base perimeter is 10.8 meters, with a diameter of 3.2 meters. The first story has one real door, while the other sides feature false lintel-shaped doors. The second and third stories each have one false lintel-shaped door per side. The inner chamber features a caisson ceiling. The body of the pagoda is built with blue bricks forming architraves, purlins, corner columns, and bracket sets. Each story uses diamond-shaped and eave-brushing bricks to create a corbelled cornice.

Little Bamboo Pagoda is situated on a slope beside a stream in a mountain valley. A few dozen meters away stands an ancient single-arch stone bridge. An old pathway leads through the bridge inward to secluded mountain villages and outward to Jiangtou Town. Here, bamboo forests, ancient trees, the historic pagoda, a small stream, an old bridge, fields, and villages create a picturesque landscape.

Xiaozhu Pagoda was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Nanxiong City in 1997 and included in the eighth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units in 2015.
