Shuixi Bridge

Shuixi Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected at the Guangdong Provincial level.

Shuixi Bridge is located in Shuixi Village on the outskirts of the city and was historically known as Wannian Bridge. Built during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, it was renovated in the 12th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1807). It is a seven-pier, eight-arch stone flat bridge. The bridge is 104 meters long, 4.3 meters wide, and about 5 meters high. All the piers are built with pointed cutwaters. Stone railings, 50 centimeters high, are installed on the bridge. The entire bridge is made of red rock and runs east to west. In 1987, it was restored through fundraising initiated by the villagers of Shuixi Village.

The bridge spans the Ling River, connecting Shuixi Village with downtown Nanxiong. To the west of the bridge stands an ancient banyan tree, creating a picturesque scene alongside the historic bridge. Especially on crisp autumn evenings under a bright moon, the moonlight, ancient bridge, flowing water, and massive banyan tree form a stunning landscape. In 2006, Shuixi Bridge was designated as a cultural heritage site protected at the Nanxiong Municipal level. On December 10, 2015, it was approved and announced by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province as part of the eighth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Heritage Sites.
