Nanxiong City Museum

Established in 1982, Nanxiong City Museum is a natural history museum. Its building was reconstructed in 2003 and completed in October 2004, with a total floor area of 2,700 square meters. The museum features permanent exhibitions on revolutionary history, paleontology, historical relics, and folk culture, using a wealth of physical objects, images, models, and textual materials to vividly reflect Nanxiong’s glorious revolutionary struggle and its natural and historical cultural heritage.

The "Nanxiong Revolutionary History Exhibition" showcases the glorious revolutionary struggle of the people of Nanxiong under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

Nanxiong is a well-known revolutionary base area. From January 1929 to April 1930, proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation such as Mao Zedong, Zhu De, and Peng Dehuai led the Fourth Red Army and Fifth Red Army into Nanxiong respectively, guiding the local people in armed struggle. In July 1932, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, and Wang Jiaxiang commanded the famous "Battle of Shuikou" in Nanxiong, dealing a heavy blow to the Nationalist forces under Chen Jitang. In March 1935, after the Long March, Xiang Ying and Chen Yi arrived in Youshan, Nanxiong from the Central Soviet Area, leading the arduous three-year guerrilla warfare in southern China. This land has also produced renowned revolutionary martyrs such as Li Letian, Zhong Jiaopan, and Zeng Zhaoxiu, who wrote moving chapters of revolutionary heroism with their young and precious lives, becoming the pride of the people of Nanxiong. The museum displays a large number of revolutionary relics, including Red Army slogans, Red Army cookware, homemade guns and cannons, as well as belongings of the martyrs—shining testimonies to the battle history of our Party, Army, and the people of Nanxiong.

In 1995, the museum was designated as a Patriotic Education Base by the Shaoguan Municipal Committee of the CPC and the Municipal Government.
