Gupo Islet

Covering an area of approximately 0.3 square kilometers, Gupo Islet is the largest uninhabited island in the northern part of the Penghu Archipelago. The island features a vast green grassland, along with stretches of white sandy beaches and rugged rocky shores on one side. Visitors can enjoy wading in the shallow waters and admire the stunning coral and tropical fish. In addition, Gupo Islet is also one of the renowned areas for producing dried seaweed (nori), which is abundant and of high quality. Currently, it is public property owned by Chikan Village and managed collectively by the village committee. Every winter during the harvest season, villagers charter boats to the islet in large numbers, creating an unprecedented spectacle that represents a unique century-old local tradition in the northern Penghu region. This uninhabited island is also home to various bird species, particularly terns such as the bridled tern and roseate tern, attracting considerable attention from birdwatchers.
