In addition to its world-renowned basalt landforms and rich marine ecological landscapes, Penghu’s annual Fireworks Festival has also attracted tens of thousands of visitors eager to participate,This year (2014), it has successfully become one of the “Most Beautiful Bays in the World,” joining the ranks of internationally renowned bays such as San Francisco Bay in the United States and Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, and is expected to attract international tourists for sightseeing.

To ensure the sustainable coexistence of tourism development and natural beauty in Penghu, the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration is committed to promoting the goal of developing a “Low-Carbon Island.” It has specially collaborated with nine businesses to launch the “Penghu Freshly Play” 12 high-quality travel routes, focusing on low-carbon eco-tourism. This initiative aims to allow visitors to enjoy the fun and quality of travel while also taking care of the preservation of local landscapes, ensuring that the title of “Most Beautiful Bays in the World” can be maintained.

Penghu is not only a member of the “Most Beautiful Bays in the World,” but its beautiful bay scenery and resources have also attracted many film crews to shoot here. In recent years, the number of tourists visiting Penghu has exceeded 900,000, and during the peak summer season, the monthly visitor count can reach as high as about 150,000. To avoid sacrificing environmental protection for tourism development, in recent years there has been active collaboration with various travel agencies to promote low-carbon travel itineraries. In addition toencouraging visitors to bring their own toiletries, choosing restaurants that serve organic and seasonal local ingredients, and guiding accommodations to comply with green building regulations, efforts are also being made to gradually introduce electric buses and electric scooters. The plan is to promote reductions in carbon dioxide emissions across all aspects of food, clothing, housing, transportation, and shopping.

This year, the Penghu Administration has specially launched the “Penghu Low-Carbon Tourism Itinerary Evaluation” promotional and guidance campaign. Through applications and self-assessments by businesses, and after passing the preliminary evaluation, a judging panel composed of scholars, experts, and travel enthusiasts jointly selected a total of nine travel agencies, including Lion Travel Service, Datianxia Travel Service, Yuanta Hotel Enterprise, Xingyun Travel Service, Jinyongshun Travel Service, Song’ai International Travel Service, Longying Marine Leisure Company, Penghu Windsurfing Water Leisure Workshop, and Kaiyao Leisure Vehicle Life Hall. Together, they have launched 12 high-quality, low-carbon travel itineraries and activities.Whether it’s a stone weir experience or an intertidal zone day tour led by local experts, or a two-day-one-night experience camp themed around Penghu’s distinctive lighthouses, all can lead visitors to closely observe marine ecology and Penghu’s history and culture. The itineraries are designed not only to ensure visitors have a great time but also to allow them to experience the cultural and ecological beauty of Penghu in a deep and environmentally friendly way.
