In addition to its world-renowned basalt landforms and rich marine ecological landscapes, Penghu’s annual Fireworks Festival has also attracted tens of thousands of visitors eager to take part,This year (2014), it has also successfully become a member of the “World’s Most Beautiful Bays,” joining internationally renowned bays such as San Francisco Bay in the United States and Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, and is expected to attract international tourists for sightseeing.

To ensure the sustainable coexistence of tourism development and natural beauty in Penghu, the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration is committed to promoting the goal of developing a “Low-Carbon Island.” In collaboration with nine businesses, it has launched the “Penghu Fresh Play” package featuring 12 high-quality travel routes. These focus on low-carbon eco-tourism, allowing visitors to enjoy their trip while also preserving local landscapes, helping the title of “World’s Most Beautiful Bay” endure.

Penghu is not only a member of the “World’s Most Beautiful Bays,” but its beautiful bay scenery and resources have also attracted many film crews to shoot here. In recent years, visitor numbers to Penghu have exceeded nine million annually, with peak summer months seeing up to around 150,000 visitors per month. To avoid sacrificing environmental protection for tourism development, efforts have been made in recent years to collaborate actively with various travel agencies to promote low-carbon travel itineraries. In addition toencouraging visitors to bring their own toiletries, choosing restaurants that serve organic and seasonal local ingredients, and guiding accommodations to meet green building standards, the administration is also gradually introducing electric buses and electric scooters. The plan is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions comprehensively in aspects such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, and shopping.

This year, the Penghu Administration has specially launched the “Penghu Low-Carbon Tourism Itinerary Evaluation” promotional campaign. Through self-assessment applications from operators, those meeting preliminary criteria are further reviewed by a panel of scholars, experts, and travel enthusiasts. A total of nine travel operators were selected to collaboratively offer 12 high-quality, low-carbon travel itineraries and activities. These include Lion Travel, Datianxia Travel, Yuanta Hotel Group, Xingyun Travel, Jinyongshun Travel, Song’ai International Travel, Dragonwing Marine Leisure Company, Penghu Windsurfing Water Leisure Workshop, and Kaiyao Leisure Vehicle Life Hall.Whether it’s a stone weir experience or an intertidal zone day tour led by local experts, or a two-day-one-night experience camp themed around Penghu’s iconic lighthouses, all allow visitors to observe marine ecology and Penghu’s history and culture up close. The tours are designed to let travelers enjoy themselves while experiencing the cultural and ecological beauty of Penghu in a deep and environmentally friendly way.
