Little Gate Whale Cave

Little Gate Whale Cave is located on the sea cliffs along the northwest coast of Xiaomen Islet in Siyu Township, Penghu County, Taiwan. It earned its name due to its resemblance to the head of a whale. Originally a basalt sea cliff, it was gradually eroded by seawater and sea winds until an archway was formed through the rock. The resulting shape, resembling a beached whale, has made it a popular attraction among visitors.

The cave is about 7.8 meters high. During high tide, visitors can enjoy the sight of massive waves crashing against the cave entrance. At low tide, people can enter the cave to hear the powerful roar of the ocean waves, which is both exhilarating and refreshing. In addition, there are now two sea stacks located to the east of the Whale Cave. These were once part of a sea arch, but the collapse of the basalt at the top created the separate pillars, which have also become a popular photography spot in recent years.
