Penghu Scenic Area

The Penghu Scenic Area was officially established in 1995 with the goal of developing the Penghu archipelago into an international maritime tourism and leisure resort destination. The Penghu Islands are home to numerous fishing harbors, where countless fishing boats light up the night with flickering lanterns that dance on the water, reflecting the stars above. This breathtaking sight, known as the “Penghu Fishing Lights,” was once selected as one of Taiwan’s Eight Scenic Spots.

The Penghu Scenic Area boasts numerous attractions. Famous natural wonders such as the “Fenggui Tidal Roar,” “Whale Cave,” “Wang’an Basalt Cliffs,” “Tiger Well Sunken City,” “Admiral Islet Sail Rock,” “Flower Islet Immortal’s Footprint,” and “Barrel Plate Islet Stone Pillars,” along with cultural landmarks including the Penghu Cross-Sea Bridge, offer stunning backdrops for visitors’ photos. Moreover, as an island community, most residents in Penghu make a living from fishing. Facing the unpredictable sea and the challenges posed by the natural environment, they have turned to faith for spiritual support, resulting in a thriving folk religious culture with temples scattered across the islands. The people of Penghu place great importance on temple architecture, often investing heavily to create exquisitely beautiful structures as a sign of reverence for the divine. As a result, these temples not only serve as centers of worship but also play significant social, economic, and cultural-tourism roles.
