Taijiang National Park

Taijiang National Park is Taiwan’s eighth national park, officially established on December 28, 2009 (the 98th year of the Republic of China). Its name originates from the ancient Taijiang Inland Sea that once existed in southwestern Taiwan. The park’s area encompasses coastal land and sea areas of Annan District and Qigu District in Tainan City, extending to Dongjiyu Island in Penghu County.

Taijiang National Park is Taiwan’s only wetland ecological park located at the intersection of river and sea, holding significant conservation value and rich ecological resources. The park covers a total area of 39,310 hectares, including 4,905 hectares of coastal land in Annan District and Qigu District of Tainan City, as well as 34,405 hectares of sea area stretching from the Lugou Section to Dongjiyu Island in Penghu County. In addition to integrating cultural, historical, and ecological conservation elements, the park features two distinct ecological landscapes—wetlands and lagoons—as well as over 1,200 black-faced spoonbills, a number far exceeding that of other countries and regions. It showcases stunning and magnificent natural scenery throughout and is an ecological reserve that is truly worth preserving and visiting.
