The Chengdu Sichuan Cuisine Museum is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Chengdu Sichuan Cuisine Museum is located in Gucheng Town, Pixian District, northwest of Chengdu. It is a tourism project developed based on ancient Shu culture and in line with the retro fashion trend. Sichuan cuisine has existed since ancient times and is an important part of Chinese culinary culture. In the late Qing Dynasty, scholars such as Kong Daosheng formally proposed the concept of Sichuan cuisine. After thousands of years of integration and development, Sichuan cuisine has gained worldwide fame and high praise from food lovers. Sichuan cuisine culture encompasses the technical skills, nutritional science, visual arts, poetry, literature, and other spiritual wealth embedded within the cuisine, as well as various carriers of Sichuan cuisine such as utensils, dining ware, relics, and historical sites.

The Chengdu Sichuan Cuisine Museum extensively uses ancient building materials from the Han, Ming, and Qing dynasties, designed and constructed using traditional restoration techniques. The garden also features carefully arranged and displayed ancient artworks and agricultural tools, which are highly appreciated for their aesthetic value. The Sichuan cuisine culture exhibited at the Chengdu Sichuan Cuisine Museum represents folk culture and is an important part of Sichuan’s local heritage.

The Collection Hall displays historical Sichuan cuisine culture through cultural relics, ancient books, and pictorial exhibits, allowing visitors to learn about the origin, evolution, development, and formation of Sichuan cuisine culture. Here, you can see the different utensils used in Sichuan cuisine during various periods, understand the productivity, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences of the time.

The Interactive Demonstration Hall showcases live demonstrations of Sichuan cuisine knife skills, heat control, and cooking processes—core elements of Sichuan cuisine’s intangible cultural heritage. These are dynamic, experiential, and artistic, and can only be presented through demonstration. Visitors can participate interactively; they can experience the aroma and flavors of Sichuan cuisine firsthand through taste, and also learn about Sichuan dining formats: à la carte meals, private rooms, and banquets.

The Kitchen God Temple is another attraction within the Sichuan Cuisine Museum. The Kitchen God is part of traditional Sichuan cuisine culture and Sichuan folk traditions. Among the people, the Kitchen God is believed to “report good deeds to heaven and ensure peace on earth.” By paying respects to the Kitchen God and valuing food and drink, visitors can reflect on the idea that “every meal is hard-earned,” appreciate life, and live in harmony with nature and society.

The Tea & Leisure Hall offers an experience of the Sichuan cuisine culture’s characteristic of “tea accompanying meals, food and drink intertwined.” Sichuan cuisine culture is a gathering culture where banquets, entertainment, and leisure blend together. Tea drinking is an integral part of Sichuan cuisine culture.

1. By Bus: Take the bus from Chengdu Chadianzi Station to Dujiangyan, get off at Pixian North Gate, then transfer to bus 363 directly to Gucheng Town.

2. By Car: From downtown Chengdu, head west along the extended Shawan Road (Shuyuan Avenue) for 23 kilometers (road signs are provided along the way).
