Go!

Pidu District is located in the heart of the Chengdu Plain, in the northwest of Chengdu City. It enjoys convenient transportation, making it easy to get around. The district is served by four rail transit lines directly connecting to the city center: the Chengdu–Dujiangyan Intercity Railway, Chengdu Metro Line 2, Chengdu Metro Line 6 (under construction, operational in July 2020), and a tram line.

Five parallel expressways run longitudinally toward the city center: Hongguang Avenue, Chengdu–Dujiangyan Expressway (Yangxi Line), Xihua Avenue, Xiyuan Avenue, and Xiqu Avenue. The Chengdu Ring Expressway (Chengdu Fourth Ring Road) and the Chengdu Second Ring Expressway (Chengdu Sixth Ring Road) traverse the district.

Pidu is 40 kilometers from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, making it very convenient to reach by airport shuttle or car.

Highlight: On race day, the Zhanqi Half Marathon organizing committee will also provide free round-trip shuttle buses near Xipu Metro Station, in the central area of Pidu District, and at the starting point in Tangchang Town (Huatian Renjia). Isn’t that super convenient? (Specific pick-up locations and departure schedules will be announced by the organizing committee later.)

Eat

For many, travel is all about seeing and tasting. Come to Pixian District, and friends, you’re in for a real treat of flavors. Pixian Douban, the “soul of Sichuan cuisine,” is one of China’s top condiments that has conquered countless taste buds. Its production technique is listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.

Yang Chicken, Jiang Pork Ribs, Rubik’s Cube Tofu Pudding, Tangchang Duck, Taihe Beef, Soft Tofu Vegetable Dish, Douban Fish — these are just some of the signature dishes of Pixian.

Rongshenghe Hotpot, which has been operating for 20 years, is refined in preparation and uses only the finest ingredients. Fangge Private Kitchen Restaurant offers unique dishes such as “Xipu Silver Carp,” “Fresh Pepper Mushroom Rabbit,” and “Sweet Potato Skin Twice-Cooked Pork.” Pixian Hongxing Restaurant serves “Tuo Tuo Fish” — not only the name of a dish but also the name of the restaurant owner. As for why it's called that? Well, you’ll have to go to Pixian to find out for yourself.

Still not satisfied? Then head straight to the Sichuan Cuisine Museum for an in-depth Sichuan flavor experience. On the Old Sichuan Restaurant Street, you can try your hand at making authentic Sichuan dishes. Friends, now’s the time to show off your true skills.

Finally, if you’re really pressed for time after the race, swing by Rural 18 Workshops for a quick meal. Here you’ll find specialties like “China Famous Dish” Bonbon Chicken and Xinglong Zongzi. And don’t forget to stop by the Pixian Douban Expo Park, Soy Sauce Workshop, and Oil Press Workshop to pack some local specialties to take home.

Stay

In 1986, China’s first farmhouse resort was born in Pixian. As the “birthplace of China’s farmhouse resorts,” Pixian’s farmhouse business has developed over 33 years into a key component of integrated rural industry, with thriving rural tourism.

Elegant and stylish countryside villas, well-arranged traditional western Sichuan houses, upscale and luxurious quality hotels... When you come here, you can rest easy.

Chengdu Mama Farm

Pixian’s first attraction to be awarded AAAA-level scenic status, it’s known as Chengdu’s “Provence.” It combines sightseeing agriculture, hotels, dining, sports and leisure, rural tourism and vacationing, and contemporary art appreciation. The site includes 450 acres of lavender fields, 15 million square feet of three-dimensional planting greenhouses for space vegetables and flowers, and nearly 3,000 square feet of Israeli-tech featured agricultural displays... truly distinctive and filling a gap in Sichuan’s flower-based ecotourism.

Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale Tianfu Hotel

Operated by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, one of the world’s largest hotel management groups. The Wyndham Grand series brings together the essence of brands under Wyndham, including Howard Johnson and Ramada, representing a unique hotel experience in major global cities. It provides premium accommodation, high-quality services, and surrounding amenities for both business and leisure travelers.

Chongning Reflections Hotel

It is a comprehensive service enterprise integrating dining, accommodation, conferences, and a health-focused Tai Chi training field.

Study

Pixian District is rich in educational resources and is a hub for numerous universities. There are nearly 15 schools of various sizes in the district, including two Project 211 institutions, making it a cradle for talent development.

UESTC QingShuiHe Campus

The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is one of China’s key universities and an important base for high-level electronic information talent cultivation and scientific research.

Southwest Jiaotong University Xipu Campus

Founded in 1896, Southwest Jiaotong University is China’s first higher engineering institution. It’s also the birthplace of higher education in civil engineering, transportation engineering, and mining and metallurgical engineering in China. It was among the first group of universities to enter the national “211 Project” and “Characteristic 985 Project,” and is known as the “Oriental Cornell.”

Xihua University Main Campus

Founded in 1960, Xihua University is a comprehensive provincial key university with a full range of disciplines and coordinated multidisciplinary development.

Others include the Gaoxin Campus of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Main Campus of Chengdu Technological University, Sichuan Media College, Sichuan Technology and Business University, ChuanDa Jincheng College, and UESTC Chengdu College.

Industry

Pixian features a distinctive industrial profile, having essentially formed an industrial system centered around electronics, bioengineering, and new pharmaceutical technologies. Major enterprises such as Intel, Huawei, Philips, Siemens, New Hope Dairy, and China Digital Harbor have successively set up operations in Pixian. The district has been honored as one of Sichuan’s first model counties for strong industrial development and a provincial base for characteristic high-tech industrialization.

Pixian is committed to building the country’s only industrial park for Sichuan cuisine. The Pixian Douban brand is valued at 64.984 billion yuan, ranking first nationally among “processed food geographical indication products.”

The district vigorously implements the “Chuangye Tianfu Action Plan” centered on Qingrong Town. Emerging industries such as big data, drones, new materials, and cultural creativity are rapidly gathering, and the area has been designated as one of the first national innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration bases. Pixian aims to make Qingrong Town an internationally renowned maker town and the world’s most influential center for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Take Zhanqi Village, which is at the forefront of rural revitalization. Tourism development has brought substantial income to local residents. Wang Li, a 48-year-old villager who runs a glutinous rice ball workshop at Rural 18 Workshops, said: “There are many enterprises in our village, such as douban factories and planting bases. Monthly wages range from two to three thousand yuan, or even four to five thousand yuan. Finding a job is never a worry.”

Travel

There are simply too many fun places in Pidu. Today, I’ll recommend a few unique spots to you. First up is the Rural 18 Workshops in our Zhanqi Village.

Rural 18 Workshops

In August last year, the "Rural 18 Workshops," covering an area of over 80 acres, opened to the public. It features a front-shop-back-workshop setup, offering both local specialty agricultural products and intangible cultural heritage displays. The cloth shoe workshop that President Xi once visited has also been relocated here and officially named the "Tangchang Cloth Shoe Workshop."

From the Tianfu Greenway to the Tangbao Road commercial area, then to Mama Farm, the blueberry base, Rural 18 Workshops, the Fifth Season Xiangjing, and Lüjia Courtyard, there’s food, shopping, entertainment, and accommodation all in one.

Wangcong Temple

A memorial shrine built to honor the earliest Shu kings, Emperor Wangdu Du Yu and his successor Emperor Cong. It is the only imperial tomb in Southwest China that enshrines two rulers and commemorates the ancestors of the Shu people, and is now a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage site.

Wangcong Temple is rich in folk cultural significance. Around the Qingming Festival each year, a singing competition is held here. The event is grand in scale, with a large turnout and a strong local flavor. This tradition originates from the ancient Chinese legend of the cuckoo crying blood.

During the singing competition, people especially love to throw plums at young women and married ladies. It’s said that the more plums you get hit with, the more children you’ll have. Some grandmothers even bring their daughters-in-law to Wangcong Temple just to pick up plums on this day.

Ginkgo Trees at UESTC

When the ginkgo trees turn yellow, Pidu gains another attraction—Qingshuihe Park. Every ginkgo season, this university becomes insanely popular. Visitors flock here from other districts and counties in Chengdu, and even Vincent Fang (a famous lyricist) is a big fan~

Besides ginkgoes, every March, large areas behind the gymnasium, around the East Lake, and south of the Economics & Management Building at UESTC are covered with rapeseed flowers. The sea of golden blooms often attracts hordes of tourists, instantly turning the campus into a tourist hotspot and drawing huge crowds.

In spring, apart from rapeseed flowers, UESTC’s campus also bursts into bloom with peach blossoms, plum blossoms, magnolia, and more... Spring is the perfect time to visit this place.

Outlets

Located in Youai Town, the Florence Town is China’s Italian-style luxury outlet. It’s the first large-scale high-end luxury discount shopping center in Southwest China with a purely Italian architectural style. It houses over a hundred global luxury and premium fashion brands, offering irresistible discounts all year round. Time to refresh your wardrobe.

Other Attractions

Additionally, Nongke Village in Youai Town—the hometown of Yang Xiong, a great Confucian scholar of the Western Han Dynasty—is the birthplace of China’s agritainment tourism. It’s a national agricultural tourism demonstration site and a national "AAAA" level scenic spot. There’s also Southwest China’s most beautiful water town—Sandaoyan—located in the ancient town of Pidu. Don’t miss the Chengdu Sichuan Cuisine Museum in Chengdu’s ancient town, or the China Sichuan Cuisine Experience Park in Ande Town. These attractions are sure to keep you enchanted.

Running

With greenways and parks scattered throughout the area, Pidu offers plenty of opportunities for fitness. For running enthusiasts planning to make a few-day trip to Pidu while participating in the Zhanqi Half Marathon, don’t miss these picturesque greenways.

Tuojiang River Greenway

The Tuojiang River Greenway can be called the backyard garden of the Pidu people. Nowadays, the Tuojiang River Greenway is getting more and more well-developed, and walking a full loop takes almost half a day.

The area preserves historical relics such as old bridges and building foundations from the Tuojiang River basin, which have been transformed into unique attractions to evoke the public's sense of place and cultural identity. It allows more citizens to "remember their roots and see history."

Whether you’re running or cycling, in springtime, with rapeseed flowers, peach blossoms, and cherry blossoms blooming along the paths, friends are sure to shed the layers of work stress, walk lightly, and leave all worries behind.

Shuxiu Greenway

The Chengdu Tianfu Greenway, within Pidu District, is named the Shuxiu Greenway. It spans 4 towns and 17 villages, with a total length of approximately 35.6 kilometers, and about 16.2 kilometers have been completed so far.

Starting from the Shuxiu Park, flanked by tall, straight metasequoia trees whose dense leaves filter out the blazing sunlight, leaving only dappled brightness—it feels like the perfect place for a hand-in-hand stroll. Walking along the greenway, you can reach Tuanjie, and then continue onto the Shaxi Line Greenway.

Shaxi Greenway

A total of two routes have been opened, spanning 26 kilometers in total. In Pidu, this is the quietest greenway. If you enjoy tranquility, you’ll definitely love this place.

Sandao Yan Greenway

The Sandao Yan Greenway is located right next to Yanqiao Bridge. The greenway is about 7 kilometers long and is an important part of the Sandao Yan Ecological Area. It’s divided into a landscape belt and an ecological belt, and is Chengdu’s first elevated "greenway." By climbing up onto this aerial greenway via the bridge, you can overlook the scenic wetlands of the Baixian River and Xuyan River—the sources of Chengdu’s water supply.
