Mianzhu Guan Yu Temple

Mianzhu Guan Yu Temple is a Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.

Mianzhu Guan Yu Temple was built by Liu Yuliang, a native of Mianzhu and prime minister in the late Ming Dynasty, and is a provincial cultural heritage protection unit.

"Every county has a Confucius temple, every village has a Guan Yu temple" — this reflects the widespread worship of Confucius and Guan Yu by all walks of life in the late history of China. According to historical records, during the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, the reverence and prevalence of worshiping “the Martial Saint” Guan Yu surpassed that of Confucius, who was praised as the “Sage of All Ages.” Some speculate that if there was one Confucius temple per county, the total number of Confucius temples nationwide in the Qing Dynasty would be no more than 3,000; whereas if there was one Guan Yu temple per village, the number of Guan Yu temples across the Qing Dynasty would reach over 300,000 — making the number of Guan Yu temples one hundred times that of Confucius temples. No wonder as early as the Ming Dynasty, Wang Shizhen exclaimed: "Thus, the temples of Lord Guan, the Former General and Marquis of Hanshou Ting, are found throughout the land." The Qing scholar Zhao Yi was even more astonished, stating: "Now their veneration extends from the southernmost hills to the northernmost frontiers, and among children and women alike, none are not awed by his (Guan Yu’s) divine power. The incense offerings to him will endure as long as heaven and earth."

Protected area: East to 3 meters beyond the eastern edge of the east corridor, south to 2 meters beyond the southern edge of the mountain gate, west to 1 meter beyond the western edge of the west corridor, and north to 1 meter beyond the northern edge of the Qisheng Hall.

Construction control zone: East to 20 meters beyond the eastern edge of the protected area, south to 30 meters beyond the southern edge of the protected area, west to 20 meters beyond the western edge of the protected area, and north to 30 meters beyond the northern edge of the protected area.
