Chasing childhood memories in the wind: The Hsinchu City International Kite Festival kicks off on the 26th and 27th!

Besides its famous rice noodles and meatballs, Hsinchu is also renowned across Taiwan for its “wind.” On the green lawns of Hsinchu Fishing Port, families flock here on weekends to fly kites, with many creations by well-known kite designers even tested and flown in the harbor area. The completion of the international kite flying field has further elevated Hsinchu’s kite-flying environment. This year’s “2017 Hsinchu City International Kite Festival” will be held on August 26 and 27. Visitors can head to the international kite flying field to fly kites, make kites, admire kites, and experience the upgraded charm of Hsinchu Fisherman’s Wharf.

Flying kites is a cherished childhood memory for many, but this activity isn’t just for kids. The Hsinchu City Government has developed Hsinchu Fisherman’s Wharf, constructing an international kite flying field, creating a family recreation area, and restoring the windbreak forest into a “Milkweed Butterfly Ecological Corridor,” offering residents the perfect leisure spot to fly kites, enjoy seafood, and take in ocean views. Last year’s Hsinchu Kite Festival attracted numerous visitors to witness the spectacular sight of various creative kites soaring through the sky. This year, the Hsinchu City International Kite Festival will also be held on August 26 and 27 at the newly completed international kite flying field. In addition to kite flying, there will be entertainment and performances throughout the day and evening—something definitely worth looking forward to.
