The 2019 Hsinchu City Diverse Reading activities made a lively debut on the 31st this month. With the theme “Life. Falling in Love with Reading,” over 80 events will be held over two and a half months. The program includes special lectures targeting parents and children, teenagers, women and new immigrants, as well as seniors, bringing reading opportunities to every corner of life in Hsinchu City—making reading a way of life.

Yesterday, 20 children from the Qinyin Experimental Kindergarten performed a singing and dancing act titled “Let’s Sing a Kids’ Song” at the Cultural Affairs Bureau Performance Hall, where they joined Deputy Mayor Shen Huihong and others to announce the official launch of the 2019 Life. Falling in Love with Reading campaign.

Shen Huihong said that the city government is actively building Hsinchu into a happy city for children. Two key things important for children are having a strong physique and accumulating a wealth of knowledge. Therefore, the city is actively promoting habits of exercise and reading among children.

This year’s diverse reading campaign runs from yesterday until November 17, spanning two and a half months. It is divided into five major series: “Love · Parent-Child,” “Love · Seniors,” “Love · Literature,” “Love · Local Culture,” and “Native Language.” Through over 80 diverse activities including reading, hands-on workshops, field visits, lectures, and book fairs, citizens of all ages can share the joy of learning and appreciate the beauty of humanities.

The first event, “LOVE Reading Day,” was held at 3:30 PM yesterday at Cultural Park. Ten parent-child families were invited to set up a “Kids’ Book Fun Corner” in the green lawn, creating a mini family reading space.

At the same time, booths featuring storytelling, parent-child puzzle board games, and mystery games were arranged, along with exciting performances such as “Parent-Child Movement Time,” “Reading Mini Theater,” and “Lawn Music Party.” For more information on related activities, please visit the Cultural Affairs Bureau website.
