The 2019 Zhubei City Labor-Family Hiking Event recently kicked off in high spirits, with nearly a thousand labor families enjoying a leisurely hike together on Shiba Jian Mountain. Deputy Mayor Shen Huihong also expressed gratitude to the workers for enhancing Zhubei City’s competitiveness, emphasizing that their hard work has made Zhubei a happy city where people can pursue and fulfill their dreams.

Shen Huihong, who attended the event to celebrate with everyone, pointed out that workers in Zhubei City are diligent and responsible. However, if business owners are unable to sustain operations, employees will lose their jobs. When asked why Zhubei City does not declare typhoon days off like other counties and cities, she explained that firstly, the forecasts do not meet the criteria for suspending work or classes, and secondly, if Zhubei City—including the Hsinchu Science Park—takes even one day off for a typhoon, the economic output loss amounts to NT$300 million.

We believe that economic prosperity, timely wage payments, and job stability are of utmost importance, and they are a win-win for both employers and employees. In addition, physical health is even more critical. Workers must take good care of their elders and children, and also maintain their physical fitness. Going out for walks with the whole family during holidays promotes health and strengthens parent-child relationships—it’s the best kind of family activity.

Huang Jinyuan, director of the Labor Affairs Bureau, stated that he hopes the Labor-Family Hiking Event will remind workers to “stay active to stay alive.” While working hard, they should not neglect the habit of staying physically active. Parents should lead by example and become role models for their children in exercising, thereby promoting both physical and mental well-being and enhancing parent-child bonds.

He said that when workers can exercise and have fun with their families, it greatly helps in maintaining an ongoing exercise routine. It not only helps preserve physical health and improve work efficiency but also allows them to care for their families, leading to a harmonious and happy home life—a win-win in many ways.

Zhuang Jianchuan, chairman of the Zhubei City Federation of Labor Unions, stated that aside from the city government’s Labor Affairs Bureau organizing this mountain hike for labor families to relieve work pressure, relax both body and mind, and strengthen parent-child relationships, the federation also collaborated with Taiwan Power Company, the Zhubei City Labor Vocational Training and Development Association, and others to simultaneously hold the “Commitment to Loving the Earth, Low-Carbon Exercise, and Electricity Conservation Campaign” and the “Occupational Safety and Employment Promotion Campaign.” The goal is to provide every worker with a safe employment environment and a green, eco-friendly living environment.
