The much-anticipated “2019 Yingge Parent-Child Ceramics Carnival” will take place on the 19th and 20th at the lively Yingge Ceramics Old Street. In addition to family-friendly events like the joyous Pottery Music Concert, Starlight Cinema, hands-on craft tours, and a 100-Person Ocarina Parade, the carnival also offers special programs for kids to play and learn about ceramics, such as a Sand Play Treasure Hunt, an overnight stay at the Ceramics Museum, and immersive experiences like artisan performances, tech-guided tours, and thematic exhibitions to explore Yingge’s deep-rooted ceramic industry. The site will also feature a Green Ceramics Market, discounts from local shops, and lucky draws for those who spend above a certain amount — providing fun, great deals, exciting things to see, and delicious food all in one go. Everyone is welcome to visit Yingge for a memorable ceramic experience.
Wu Ming-chi, Deputy Mayor of New Taipei City, said that ceramics are everywhere in daily life, whether in artistic creations, architectural decorations, or everyday utensils. Yingge is a hub of Taiwan’s ceramics industry, and this carnival aims to showcase the unique charm of Yingge ceramics through a variety of parent-child activities, fun-filled programs for children, and local cultural performances. It also seeks to promote Yingge’s ceramic industry and culture, boost local brand awareness, and stimulate tourism and business opportunities.
Experts Lead the Cultural Experience
The Department of Economic Development explained that this year’s Yingge Parent-Child Ceramics Carnival features a range of activities, among which the craft tour, overnight stay at the Ceramics Museum, and 100-Person Ocarina Parade sold out instantly upon registration. The craft tour includes visits to visitor-friendly factories and DIY experiences with specialty products from the Sanxia, Yingge, and Shulin areas, led by experts who share the joy of hands-on creation. Combined with tech-guided tours, participants can experience the distinctive flair of Yingge, giving children a holiday unlike any other.
Discover Local Ceramic Culture
The overnight stay at the Ceramics Museum allows children to sleep within the Yingge Ceramics Museum itself. Through guided tours, artisan performances, DIY activities, and ocarina music classes, they can gain a deeper appreciation and love for ceramic culture. Additionally, the 100-Person Ocarina Parade provides free ocarinas and lessons, and embraces Yingge’s local character with a “Parrot” costume theme, inviting families to dress up in bird-inspired outfits and join the parade.
The Department of Economic Development added that those who didn’t secure a spot shouldn’t be discouraged. Aside from the 100-Person Ocarina Parade, which allows on-site registration, the event also features a Pottery Music Concert where parents and kids can sing and dance along to cartoon and children’s songs, a Starlight Cinema screening popular films in the evening, and a Sand Play Treasure Hunt for some sandy fun. Moreover, the carnival features live demonstrations by local masters showcasing professional techniques, along with tech-guided tours, historical exhibitions, and artisan markets, allowing the public to further engage with and understand local ceramic culture.
In addition, the event has partnered with over 100 local shops to offer special discounts. Customers who spend a minimum amount at participating stores during the two-day event can exchange receipts for raffle tickets to win one of a hundred prizes. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun in Yingge. For more details, please visit the New Taipei City Government Department of Economic Development website.
