Covering an area of 2,600 square meters and displaying 680 cultural relics, the Mianzhu Earthquake Relief and Post-Disaster Reconstruction Memorial Hall is the only on-site memorial built at the original site in the Wenchuan earthquake-stricken area. It is open to the public free of charge all year round. The memorial hall fully utilizes digital means such as virtual technology and the internet, presenting exhibits through photos, texts, objects, audiovisual materials, and videos. It is also the first in China to adopt 360° rectangular immersive 4D cinema technology. Through unique experiences of life in temporary housing and segments of the “August 13 Qingping mudslide,” visitors can relive the earthquake and witness the entire process of relief and reconstruction. The memorial hall comprehensively reflects the journey of Mianzhu’s leaders and citizens in earthquake relief and post-disaster rebuilding, showcasing the struggle of Mianzhu — one of the hardest-hit areas in the “5·12 Wenchuan Earthquake” — from tragedy to triumph, highlighting and promoting the great spirit of earthquake relief. The clock hands on the square in Mianzhu’s Hanwang Town are permanently fixed at 14:28, making it a profoundly meaningful structure and the most significant monument to the 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake.
