Lantern Square

Lantern Square   Lantern Square is located in the bustling downtown area of Zhonghe Town (the city center), Xiushan, Chongqing Tujia and Miao Autonomous County. It covers an area of 41,683 square meters. The square is mainly paved, with green spaces spanning 1,000 square meters and water surfaces covering 1,588 square meters. Shaped like a triangle, the front entrance features an inscription by Li Peng reading “Xiushan Lantern Square.” The arched gateway at the square’s entrance is adorned with reliefs depicting the local customs and folk traditions of Xiushan, an autonomous county of ethnic minorities. There are landscape pools on both sides of the gate, and the performance marble stage at the square’s entrance has a map of Xiushan County engraved on it. At the center stands a bronze statue of a couple dancing the traditional Lantern Dance, reflecting the ethnic characteristics of Xiushan. Lantern Square serves as the main cultural, leisure, fitness, and shopping hub for Xiushan residents, as well as an important political center for the county—major events are typically held here.
