Xiushan Old Town West Street

West Street, the memory of the old town.

West Street, the city’s reception hall. Located in the western part of Xiushan’s old town, West Street was once the economic and cultural hub of the area. It still preserves some ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as notable historic sites such as Bagua Well and Tianhou Palace. In 2011, the county government invested 150 million yuan to launch a comprehensive renovation of the West Street area. Following the principle of “restoring the old as it was,” efforts were made to revive the historical appearance of West Street. By integrating the six essential elements of tourism, the street was transformed—modelled after Chengdu’s Kuanzhai Alley and developed to national 4A-level scenic area standards—shifting its focus toward culture, commerce, and tourism. The hardware conditions to achieve 4A-level scenic area status have now been largely met.
