The Tomb of He Jinsheng is a cultural relic protection unit of Hunan Province.

Dating back to the late Qing Dynasty. It is located in Luanxing Village, Shuangshi Town, Shaodong County, Hunan Province, and is the grave of He Jinsheng, a renowned patriot of the late Qing period.

The tomb is situated on the mountainside of Luan Mountain Ridge, circular in shape, 0.8 meters high, 0.32 meters thick, with a surrounding wall diameter of 7.9 meters. Both the surrounding wall and the mound are built from limestone and coated with cement mortar. In front stands a stone stele, 0.85 meters high and 0.48 meters wide. The inscription is carved in intaglio, with “Tomb of Mr. He Jinsheng” engraved in the center. About 80 meters in front of the tomb lies the He Jinsheng Ancestral Hall, alongside the He Jinsheng Memorial Hall.

He Jinsheng (1853–1902), styled Zhifang, was a native of Shaodong. In the 28th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1902), he initiated a peasant uprising in Shetianqiao, Shaodong, raising the banner of “The Han Army to Protect the People and Eradicate Foreigners.” The movement grew to over 100,000 followers, shaking several southern provinces. On September 27 of that year, he was lured and executed by the Hunan Governor Yu Lian in Qingshiping, Shuangfeng County. Later generations buried him here.

On October 10, 1983, the People’s Government of Hunan Province designated it as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit, with the serial number 57-57.

He Jinsheng (February 1853 – September 1902), originally named Shangyi, courtesy name Zhonghuai, styled Zhifang, also known as Yicheng, was a native of Luan Mountain Ridge (now Tanshanpu Township); born on the sixth day of the first lunar month in the third year of the Xianfeng reign (February 13, 1853).

In his youth, he studied Confucian classics such as The Analects and Mencius. As he grew older, he devoted himself to practical studies for statecraft, taking a keen interest in Sun Tzu’s The Art of War and Qi Jiguang’s New Book of Effective Discipline, aspiring to emulate the sages and save the times. In the spring of the seventh year of the Guangxu reign (1881), he passed the imperial examination for the xiucai degree.
