The Huanglong Ancient Architectural Complex is a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province.

Huanglong Ancient Architectural Complex

Located in Huanglong Town, Zhangwan District, Shiyan City, the complex consists of Qing Dynasty architecture. It includes the Shanxi-Shaanxi Guild Hall, Huangzhou Guild Hall, Jiangxi Guild Hall, Wuchang Guild Hall, Traditional Residence No. 64, Attached Traditional Residence No. 64-2, the Barber’s Residence, and the Residence of Wang Qihua, among others. Spanning 27,640 square meters, most buildings face south, while a small number are oriented east-west. Most feature flush gable roofs, with beam frameworks in post-and-lintel, mortise-and-tenon, or hybrid styles. Building materials include brick, wood, and stone, all topped with traditional blue-gray tiles. Stone doors and windows come in diverse designs. The decorative elements of the gable walls and eaves are rich and varied. Gable walls include five-color gables as well as cat-arched or ruyi-style designs. Wall construction methods vary, including bonded masonry, staggered blue-brick coursing, and vertical laying. The wing rooms and pavilions feature a wide variety of interior fittings, each unique. The Huanglong Ancient Architectural Complex is a product of the integration of politics, economy, culture, and commerce in northwestern Hubei. With its large scale, centralized layout, and rational structure, it stands as a representative architectural relic of the Shiyan region from the Qing Dynasty, holding significant value for the study of ancient residential architecture along the Han River basin.
