Former Residence of Mr. Zhang Zhenwu

The former residence of Mr. Zhang Zhenwu is a cultural relics protection unit of Hubei Province.

Former Residence of Zhang Zhenwu: Located in Nankou Village, Shuangtai Township, it was listed as a Provincial Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 2006 and serves as a county-level patriotic education base. Zhang Zhenwu (1877–1912) was a founding hero of the Xinhai Revolution. As a youth, he studied in his hometown. In 1905, he went to Japan to study and joined the Tongmenghui. He graduated from Waseda University in Japan in 1907 and returned to China that same year to engage in anti-Qing and anti-imperialist revolutionary activities. In 1909, he served as the Finance Minister of the Hubei Gongjin Society. In 1910, he joined the armed uprising organized by Dr. Sun Yat-sen in Wuchang. In August 1912, he was secretly assassinated by Yuan Shikai in Beijing. According to the wishes of his family, his body was transported back to Tian’gou in his hometown for burial. However, due to the long distance and poor transportation, the body had decayed, so he was buried on Muyu Mountain in Santai during the journey.

Zhang Zhenwu (1877–1912), of Han ethnicity, was from Luotian, Hubei. He was a modern Chinese democratic revolutionary and a military leader in the early years of the Republic of China, serving as one of the main organizers and leaders of the Wuchang Uprising.

He graduated early from the Senior School of Zhushan County and later attended the Hubei Provincial Normal School. Influenced by his teachers, he developed revolutionary ideas against the Qing Dynasty. After the First Sino-Japanese War, he sold family property to fund his studies in Japan at Waseda University, where he majored in law and politics and joined a sports association to learn military tactics and strategies.
