The "Momotaro Village" in Zhushan, Nantou Opens – A Taiwanese Version of the 2.5-Story Kumamoto Castle Debuts

The new attraction in Zhushan, Nantou, "Taiwan Film City - Momotaro Village," officially opened today (29th). Despite the rainy weather and free admission on opening day, it still drew a large number of visitors. Spanning 5.8 hectares — 29 times the size of Xitou Monster Village — the site includes Japanese streets, a shrine, a gassho-style village, and a 2.5-story Kumamoto Castle, among other Japanese-style buildings. Numerous Taiwanese TV dramas have been filmed here.

Located in Zhushan, Nantou, Taiwan Film City’s "Momotaro Village" covers an area of about 5.8 hectares. It is named after the Japanese tale of Momotaro, as the story’s scenes have been recreated within this fictional village. Visitors to Zhushan can now explore Japanese streets, shrines, a gassho-style village, and even Momotaro’s home. The project was initiated by director Feng Xinghua, who struggled to find suitable filming locations and thus invested in establishing the village. It has already hosted numerous TV drama productions. Despite the rainy weather on opening day, many tourists still made special trips to visit.

The interior of Momotaro Village is designed around scenes from the Momotaro legend, featuring elements like a river and the house of Momotaro, known as Peach House. But besides the story-themed settings, what visitors love most are the Japanese-style structures, including a 2.5-story Kumamoto Castle, a gassho-style village, and a cherry blossom path. In addition to Japanese architecture, there are also buildings modeled after those from Taiwan’s Japanese colonial period.
