The Huaihe River originates from Taibai Peak in the Tongbai Mountains in the northern part of Suizhou. The source area covers eight towns and three state-owned forest farms in Suizhou, including Wanhe, Huaihe, Caodian, Xiaolin, Yindian, and the state-owned Qijianfeng Forest Farm in Suixian County; and Wudian, Haodian, Caihe, the state-owned Zhonghuashan Forest Farm, and the state-owned Daguisi Forest Farm in Guangshui area. The total coverage area is 282,700 hectares, accounting for 29.3% of the city’s total land area, including 215,700 hectares of forest land, which makes up about 38.72% of the city’s total forested area, and 10,000 hectares of wetland.

This park holds the unique status of being the landmark of the Huaihe River source. It effectively helps protect the ecological environment and water quality of the Huaihe River basin, preserves the special ecosystem and biodiversity along China’s geographical north-south divide, and promotes the development of Suizhou’s eco-tourism and green industries. In June 2015, the Huaihe River Source Wetland Park was approved as a provincial-level wetland park by the provincial government.
