The Shang and Zhou Dynasty Tomb Cluster is located in the Da Shahe River channel north of Nie Village, Yangmiao Town, Jiaozuo Urban-Rural Integration Demonstration Zone. To date, 48 ancient tombs and 15 ash pits have been excavated. The tombs are oriented from east to west and are neatly arranged, covering an area of approximately 800 square meters. Human skeletal remains are well-preserved, all facing east, and are divided into two types: supine with straight limbs and prone with straight limbs. The burial depths range from 1 to 20 meters. Burial objects include bronze daggers, bronze adzes, pottery li tripods, pottery jars, and shell coins. These are identified as tombs from the second phase of the Yinxu period, i.e., late Shang Dynasty tombs. The Nie Village (site) cemetery is the first Shang Dynasty tomb site discovered in Jiaozuo City, and also one of the few Shang Dynasty tomb sites found nationwide. Its cultural content is consistent with that of the second phase of Yinxu, allowing for mutual corroboration. It serves as an important example for studying the culture of the late Shang Dynasty and holds significant importance for research on the tomb system, burial methods, and accompanying burial customs of the late Shang Dynasty. The unearthed bronze daggers and adzes are of great scientific value for the study of metallurgical technology in the late Shang Dynasty. Meanwhile, the Nie Village site is one of the few pre-Shang and early Shang cultural site remnants discovered in Jiaozuo City. Rich in content, it provides an important instance for researching the evolution of pre-Shang and early Shang cultures, as well as key evidence for studying the relationship between China’s pre-Shang culture and the Erlitou culture (Xia culture), making it of considerable historical value.
