Due to the major earthquake in Kaohsiung at 3:57 AM on February 6, high-speed rail service south of Taichung has been suspended. A large number of passengers have crowded Taichung HSR Station, and transfer connections have reached their limit. The high-speed rail urges passengers heading to areas south of Taichung not to continue swarming into the station for rides; today, many scheduled reserved-seat trains have been canceled, and passengers must repurchase non-reserved tickets, which has caused dissatisfaction. Whether high-speed rail service south of Taichung will operate normally on February 7 will be announced at 9 PM on February 6, and relevant refund policies are posted below by the high-speed rail company.

Kaohsiung Earthquake – Service Schedule Adjustments
Taiwan High-Speed Rail has been severely affected by today’s (6th) Kaohsiung earthquake. After track inspections, it was found that the electrical catenary system along the Gui-ren section in Tainan has suffered damage to its alignment and structure, with multiple insulators broken and cantilevers fractured. The high-speed rail company has assessed that the Taichung–south section will definitely not be able to resume normal operations today. Passengers are urged to adjust their itineraries or use alternative transportation.
In addition, as transfer connections around Taichung HSR Station have currently reached maximum capacity, the high-speed rail company urgently appeals to passengers planning to go to areas south of Taichung today to use other modes of transport and not to board the high-speed rail. The high-speed rail company has deployed additional personnel and is seeking support from partner vendors to carry out full-scale emergency repairs. Whether normal operations will resume tomorrow (7th) will be announced at 9 PM tonight.
The ticket handling procedures for February 6 are as follows:
1) For passengers who purchased tickets for trains delayed or canceled due to the earthquake, if the ticket has not been used, they may bring the original ticket to any station ticket window within one year from the original travel date to apply for a full refund, free of charge. If passengers still wish to take the high-speed rail, they may use the original ticket to ride subsequent trains on a non-reserved basis within one year, or exchange it for a reserved seat on another train with available seats.
2) For passengers who originally purchased tickets to stations south of Taichung today, if they disembark at Taichung Station, the fare for the unused portion will be refunded. Passengers may visit any station ticket window within one year with their ticket to process the refund.
3) In addition, out of consideration for passenger travel during the Spring Festival, the high-speed rail company is providing transfer services to Taiwan Railways or bus services at Taichung Station for passengers affected by the earthquake. The cost of these transfers will be covered by the high-speed rail company on a special case-by-case basis.
