The first train car has been assembled at the Kobe factory in Japan, undergone testing, and completed its factory departure ceremony on January 10. The manufacturer, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (abbreviated as KHI), held the train car departure ceremony at the Hyogo Factory, marking an important milestone in the mechanical and electrical system engineering of the Taichung MRT Green Line. The MRT Green Line is expected to purchase 18 train cars, each consisting of two cars, with a walkway connecting the cars for passenger passage.

Each MRT car is approximately 22.17 meters long, 2.98 meters wide, and 3.78 meters high. The total train length is about 44.34 meters, with a passenger capacity of around 536 people (approximately 268 per car). The vehicle type uses steel wheels on steel rails, with a stainless-steel body. Operating speed, including stops and acceleration, averages 35 km/h, with a maximum cruising speed of up to 70 km/h. The system adopts fully automatic, driverless operation.
Features of the train car:
1. Exterior designed with the concept of “new sprouts blooming”
The front of the car features a streamlined shape, conveying a sense of lightness, while the body retains the original stainless-steel color, paired with windows and green trim strips, giving the train car a more modern look.
2. Interior adopts a “bright and simple” color scheme
The floor and seat colors inside the car feature a green gradient, with priority seats designed in pink, creating a soft and lively spatial feel throughout the cabin. The S-shaped stainless-steel handrails are an innovative design that adds vibrancy to the interior space.

The first train car is expected to arrive at the Beitun Depot of the Taichung MRT Green Line in mid-February. It is estimated that 17 more train cars will arrive at the Beitun Depot successively by the end of 2017. After preparation, a series of functional tests and validations for the train cars will begin.

The Wuri-Wenxin-Beitun MRT line has a total length of approximately 16.7 kilometers, starting from near the No. 2 Bridge on Songzhu Road in Beitun District in the east, extending south to the Taichung High-Speed Rail Station area, with a total of 18 stations along the route. Trial operations are scheduled for 2018, with the line expected to open to traffic in 2020.
