During the early spring season when nature begins to awaken, Taiwan High Speed Rail and the Jane Goodall Institute International have collaborated to give out native Taiwanese plant seeds at six stations—Chiayi, Tainan, Zuoying on March 24 (Saturday), and Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Taichung on March 25 (Sunday). Members of the public can pick up the seeds for free at the event locations.

Native plants are those that grow naturally in a specific region without human transplantation or cultivation. Having evolved over time, they are well-adapted to the local environment and climate, and have established stable, interdependent relationships with indigenous wildlife. The six selected seed types—Solanum erianthum, Thespesia populnea, Pittosporum pentandrum, Rhaphiolepis indica, and Glossy Privet— are common native tree species in Taiwan and help maintain the country’s ecological balance.
On the day of the event, members of the “Roots & Shoots” groups from the Jane Goodall Institute will dress up as seeds or saplings to hand out packets to travelers at the six high-speed rail stations. Activity booths will also be set up at the stations. Each packet will contain 5 to 10 seeds, and around 1,000 packets will be given out at each station. Members of the public can take the seeds home to plant on their own.
