Ancient Tombs of Weishan Island

The ancient tomb complex of Weishan Island is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The ancient tombs on Weishan Island are located in the western part of the island, including the Tomb of Weizi, the Tomb of Zhang Liang, and a cluster of small Han Dynasty tombs. The burial mound of the Tomb of Weizi stands 10 meters high with a base diameter of 70 meters. In front of the tomb are four stone tablets from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The tomb’s occupant, Weizi, was the half-brother of King Zhou of Shang. “Wei” was the name of his feudal state, and he was buried on Weishan Island after his death.

The ancient tomb complex of Weishan Island includes the Tomb of Weizi of the Yin (Shang) Dynasty, the Tomb of Zhang Liang, the Tomb of Lord Muyi, the cluster of Han tombs in Mianqian Village, and the cluster of Han tombs in Wanzhuang Village.

The Tomb of Zhang Liang is located north of Mianqian Village. Its burial mound is 15 meters high with a diameter of 100 meters. In front of the tomb is a stone tablet from the second year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty, inscribed with “Tomb of Zhang Liang, Marquis of Liu in the Han Dynasty.” Weishan Island was the fief of Zhang Liang, and he was buried here after his death. The original Han Dynasty structures and steles were damaged long ago. There are many other Han tombs in the vicinity, and over a hundred have been excavated in the past decade, yielding more than 600 cultural relics. A large number of Han tombs remain exposed to this day.

Mianqian Village: Mianqian Village is located in the southwestern part of Weishan Island Township, about 1.8 kilometers from the township government seat. The village party branch secretary is Gao Chaofa, and the village committee director is Zhang Bo. The village was established in 1984 and was named after its location in front of the Tomb of Zhang Liang. The village has four major surnames: Yao, Gao, Zhang, and Tian, with Yao, Gao, and Zhang being the most common. It consists of four villager groups, with 382 households and a population of 1,274. The village spans 389 meters from east to west and 260 meters from north to south.
