Remains of Tangtai

The remains of Tangtai are a cultural relic protection unit of Jining City.

The remains of Tangtai are located to the west of Nanboliang Village, Liangcheng Town, Weishan County, Shandong Province, on the eastern shore of Nanyang Lake. To the north lies Phoenix Mountain, to the west the Baima River, and stretching southward toward Baiyige. The central part of the site features a tableland-like elevation. The entire site slopes from south to north in a terraced formation, extending all the way to the foot of Phoenix Mountain. It spans 1,000 meters from east to west and 800 meters from north to south, covering a total area of 800,000 square meters. The site has yielded a significant number of pottery fragments, broken stone tools, animal bones, clamshell pieces, and fired earth. The cultural deposit layer is about 4 meters thick, primarily dating back to the Shang Dynasty, interspersed with layers from the Dawenkou culture.

Liangcheng Town: Situated by Dushan Lake—one of the lakes in the Nanyang Lake system—Liangcheng Town covers a total area of 130 square kilometers, including 110,000 mu of water surface and 43,000 mu of arable land. It administers 48 administrative villages and has a population of 75,000.

Liangcheng derives its name from the ancient cities of Kuangcheng and Maocheng during the Warring States Period. With a long history, outstanding talents, and a rich culture, the area has been inhabited since 6,000 years ago, as evidenced by unearthed relics such as the Tangtai site in the northwest of Nanbocun (from the Dawenkou culture period), the Jijialin site from the Warring States Period, Han Dynasty tombs, and Han Dynasty stone reliefs.
