Hufang Town

Hufang Town is situated in the western part of Yanshan County, Shangrao City. It neighbors Hongqiao Township and Gangdong Township to the east, Chenfang Township to the south, Wang’er Town to the northeast, and borders both Yiyang County and Guixi City to the northwest. The town spans 118 square kilometers and administers 11 village committees and 1 neighborhood committee, with a population of around 24,000 as of 2008. The arable land area amounts to 29,000 mu. The region is rich in mineral resources, with large reserves of limestone and coal. It also boasts abundant forestry resources, including over 40,000 mu of high-yield bamboo forests. The water quality is excellent, supporting fish farming over an area of 10,000 mu.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the town has established a development strategy focused on “pursuing rapid growth, building an attractive town, expanding the economic base, enhancing the town’s profile, and establishing itself as the regional hub for the surrounding three counties and seven townships.” It has comprehensively advanced four major strategies: agricultural industrialization, rural urbanization, economic privatization, and the promotion of civilized rural customs. This has led to rapid economic and social development within the town. Agricultural production has achieved commendable results, earning the town recognition as a provincial model township for modern agriculture. A number of high-quality agricultural product bases have been established, including 3,000 mu of red sprout taro, 6,000 mu of premium rice, and 1,000 mu of specialty aquatic products, with the total area exceeding 10,000 mu. The town has received over 60 honors, including National Advanced Unit for Promoting New Marriage and Childbearing Trends, National Family Planning Association Work Award, National Advanced Unit for Trade Union Work in Newly Established Enterprises, Provincial “Six Goods” Party Committee of Townships, and Provincial Top 100 Townships. In 2005, the town achieved a gross domestic product of 143.76 million yuan, fiscal revenue of 11.56 million yuan, per capita net income of farmers reaching 3,710 yuan, and total fixed asset investment in society amounting to 78 million yuan.
