Shitang Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument
The Shitang Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is a classic red tourism attraction.
The Shitang Martyrs' Monument is overall modeled after Beijing's Monument to the People's Heroes, meticulously imitating its proportions and style to achieve the desired effect. The inscription on the front of the monument reads "Shitang Martyrs' Monument of Yanshan County," inscribed by the then-serving leader in bold characters.
On the left: "Immortalized Forever"
During the construction of Beijing's Monument to the People's Heroes, Chairman Mao wrote the eight characters "Eternal Glory to the People's Heroes" on June 9, 1955, for the tablet stone. The Shitang Martyrs' Monument uses the latter four characters, "Immortalized Forever."
On the right: "Carry Forward the Revolutionary Tradition and Strive for Greater Glory"
In August 1951, Chairman Mao dispatched the Central People's Government Southern Revolutionary Base Visiting Group, led by Xie Juezai, to Jiangxi, where they visited old revolutionary bases such as Jinggangshan. Elder Xie presented a silk banner embroidered with the words personally written by Chairman Mao — "Carry Forward the Revolutionary Tradition and Strive for Greater Glory" — to the people of Jiangxi. Since then, this inscription by Chairman Mao has become a powerful driving force for the people of Jiangxi and the entire nation to inherit and carry forward the revolutionary tradition. The Shitang Martyrs' Monument uses these 15 characters from Chairman Mao.
