Jiang Shiquan (1725–1785), also known by his courtesy name Xinyu and alternative names Shao Sheng and Qingrong, as well as the pseudonyms Cangyuan and later Dingfu. He referred to himself as the "Hermit of the Stain-Free Hut" because his study was called "Ligou An." A native of Shipandu in Yongping Town, Yanshan County, he was a renowned playwright and literary figure of the Qing Dynasty. He passed the imperial examination at the age of 22 and held various official positions including compiler at the Wuying Hall and the National History Office, examination official for the Shuntian Prefecture, and compiler for the "Continuation of the Comprehensive Examination of Literature." Jiang Shiquan was immensely talented; Emperor Qianlong praised him and Peng Yuanrui as the "Two Eminent Scholars of Jiangyou," and his poetry was celebrated alongside that of Yuan Mei and Zhao Yi, collectively known as the "Three Great Masters of Jiangyou."
