Yaojinshan Temple

Yaojinshan Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

Yaojinshan Temple is located in the town government seat of Jinshan Town. First built during the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty, it has a history of over 1,300 years and is one of the ancient temples with a long history in western Jiangxi. The temple features simple yet magnificent architecture. The main hall is grand and imposing, while the side halls have double-layered glazed eaves, are delicately designed, and emphasize symmetry. The entire temple complex is both unified and well-layered. At present, in the inner courtyard of the front hall, there still stands an ancient arhat pine planted during the Tang Kaiyuan era, about 8 meters tall with a trunk diameter of 0.5 meters. Despite enduring over 1,300 years of wind and rain, it remains sturdy and upright, with twisting branches and lush green leaves, full of vitality.

Originally named Baohua Guan, Yaojinshan Temple is located in Jinshan Administrative Village, Jinshan Town. It was first built during the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty (713–714 AD) under the leadership of Master Peng Puming. It underwent multiple renovations during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The jinshi (advanced scholar) and Zhongxian Daifu Wang Longfeng inscribed the mountain gate plaque “Imperially Bestowed: Yaojin, the Number One Mountain.” It covers an area of 3,000 square meters with a floor space of 1,800 square meters.

The Jinshan Temple originally enshrined various Buddhas, deities, and statues. In the front were the Three Pure Ones and Guan Yu; various saintly statues were displayed, with the Ancestral Master Hall on the left and the Guanyin Hall on the right. There were over a hundred wing rooms on both sides, and many scholars such as the Ming jinshi Luo Hongxian and the imperial censor Zou Yuanbiao left inscriptions here.

In front of Yaojinshan Temple, there is an arhat pine planted by the Tang Dynasty ancestral master Peng Puming, along with a stone stele inscribed by Zou Yuanbiao reading “Planted during the Tang Kaiyuan era, ancient arhat pine, inscribed by the Ming Nánfùshān recluse.”
