Nestled in the southwest corner of Miaoli County, Yuanli—known as the "Granary of Miaoli" and the "Hometown of Rattan Grass"—boasts beautiful beaches and fishing harbors, as well as rice and rattan grass weaving. Yuanli Township is one of the earliest-established towns in Miaoli and is known as the "Granary of Miaoli" or "Rice Granary of Miaoli." It was once a bustling trade hub. Around Yuanli Railway Station, you can see well-preserved beautiful architecture and still feel the lively atmosphere of its past prosperity.

Full of traditional charm, Yamashita Elementary School features four Japanese-style dormitories built between 1937 and 1941. The buildings are typical examples of Japanese dormitory architecture from that period, covered in cypress wood siding, reflecting the simple design of Japanese dormitories from the later years of Japanese rule.
