Ancient Buddhist Arhat Pine at Jinshan Temple

The ancient Buddhist Arhat Pine at Jinshan Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Pingxiang City.

The ancient Buddhist Arhat Pine is located within Yaojingshan Temple in Jinshan Village, Jinshan Town, Shangli County. It was personally planted by Master Peng during the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty, and in the Ming Dynasty, the Eastern Forest Party member and Grand Censor Zou Yuanbiao inscribed a stele with the words: “Ancient Buddhist Arhat Pine planted in the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty.”

The ancient pine once shed its leaves and withered due to political turmoil, becoming unsightly. However, with the winds of reform and opening-up, it regained its green hue from its yellowing state, grew lush and leafy again, and several objects resembling Nuo masks appeared on the trunk in the middle of the tree.

In the early 1980s, the stele in front of the pine was knocked down by a driver reversing their vehicle. At the time, Yaojingshan Temple was being used by the Jinshan Construction Team, and vehicles transporting construction materials frequently entered and exited. Afterward, the stele was repaired and restored to its original appearance.
