Newly Built Neolithic Site

The Newly Built Neolithic Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shangli County.

The Neolithic site is located on Shijiatai in Xincun Village, Shangli Town, Shangli County. Covering an area of 7,000 square meters, it was discovered in 1972 when villagers were digging earth to build houses and make bricks. It was confirmed as a Neolithic site by the municipal museum, and a large number of stone tools such as stone axes and stone arrows were unearthed. The New Qu Yuan Temple was built on the site in 1989. The New Qu Yuan Temple covers a construction area of 1,570 square meters, faces west with its back to the east, has a protected zone extending 60 meters in all directions, a construction control zone extending 90 meters in all directions, and a controlled building height of 10 meters.

Shangli Town: Located in the northern part of Pingxiang and on the border between Hunan and Jiangxi, Shangli Town is the seat of the county government and also the political, economic, cultural, transportation, and commercial center of the entire county. The town covers a total area of 98.9 square kilometers, with a population of 82,100. It currently administers 29 administrative villages and 4 community neighborhood committees.

The area enjoys convenient transportation. The Nanchang–Changsha Highway runs east–west, while National Highway 319 and the Pingxiang–Shangli Expressway run north–south, forming a crisscrossing, safe, and smooth urban–rural road network.
