The former site of the Banzhu Mountain Uprising is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shangli County.

The former site of the Banzhu Mountain Uprising—Lingyun Temple, is located on Banzhu Mountain in Wanshi Administrative Village, Shangli Town, Shangli County. In December 1927, the Banzhu Mountain Uprising, led by the CCP Anyuan City Committee and directly commanded by the Shangli District Party Committee, broke out here. The site covers an area of 300 square meters, with a construction area of 150 square meters. It faces south and sits to the north. The protected area extends 200 meters around the site, the construction control zone spans 100 meters around the site, and the maximum allowable construction height is 10 meters.

Banzhu Mountain, with an elevation of over 200 meters and covering an area of 30 square kilometers, has a name closely linked to a remarkable event in modern revolutionary history—the renowned Banzhu Mountain Uprising. The establishment and development of the Banzhu Mountain Revolutionary Base posed a serious threat to the reactionary rule of the Kuomintang in Pingxiang, causing them great alarm. Although the uprising ultimately failed, the gunfire in Zizi Pit awakened the slumbering mountains and, more importantly, the working masses and peasants of Shangli. Thereafter, the underground Party in the Shangli region led the local people into an even more arduous and bitter period of underground guerrilla warfare. The revolutionary spark of Banzhu Mountain continued to burn across the land of Shangli, making significant contributions to the liberation of Pingxiang.

Shangli Town: Located in the northern part of Pingxiang and on the border between Hunan and Jiangxi, Shangli Town is the seat of the county government and also the political, economic, cultural, transportation, and commercial hub of the entire county. The town covers a total area of 98.9 square kilometers, with a population of 82,100. It currently administers 29 administrative villages and 4 community neighborhood committees.

The area enjoys convenient transportation. The Nanchang–Changsha Highway runs east–west, while National Highway 319 and the Pingxiang–Shangli Expressway traverse north–south, forming a crisscrossing, safe, and smooth network of urban and rural roads.
