Former Residence of Zhang Guotao

The former residence of Zhang Guotao is a cultural heritage site protected by Shangli County.

The former residence of Zhang Guotao is located on Zhimu Mountain in Shanming Village, Jinshan Town, Shangli County, 6.5 kilometers from National Highway 319. Built during the Qing Dynasty, it is an earthen courtyard home featuring 48 courtyards, facing west with a Kūnshān Gěnxiàng orientation, slightly deviated to the left by three degrees, and originally covered an area of over 20 acres. At present, the main structure of the residence remains largely intact, but the interior has been occupied by 28 villagers who have built houses there, with parts altered, resulting in severe damage.

This residence was also the home of Zhang Guoshu, an early revolutionary activist of the Chinese Communist Party and a brother of Zhang Guotao. At the age of 26, Zhang Guoshu served as the Secretary of the Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the CCP, leading underground struggles in Jiangxi Province. In early July 1930, he was arrested due to betrayal by an informant and heroically sacrificed his life on July 5, 1930. He is now recognized as a martyr.
