Couplets by Liu Fenggao
The couplets by Liu Fenggao are a cultural relic protection unit of Shangli County.
Liu Fenggao, styled Chengmu and also known as Jinmen, was a native of Shiguanquan in Chishan Town, Shangli County. He was the third-place scholar (Tan Hua) in the imperial examination personally selected by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. During a visit to his maternal grandfather Zhou’s family in Shixi, Changping Township, he inscribed a couplet on the stone pillars of the ancestral hall: “The stream flows ceaselessly, its myriad branches and tributaries all returning to one source; the tablet mountain hangs high, with dragons and tigers in the clouds foretelling success at the top.”
The ancestral hall of the Zhou family in Shixi, Changping Township, has a construction area of 500 square meters, faces west with its back to the east, has a protected zone extending 30 meters around the ancestral hall, and a construction control zone also extending 30 meters around the ancestral hall, with a maximum allowable building height of 10 meters.
