Red Army slogans and cartoons in Xiaojian

The Red Army slogans and cartoons in Xiaojian are a cultural relic protection unit of Shangli County.

The Red Army slogans and cartoons are located on the right exterior wall near the entrance of the Xiao Family Ancestral Hall on the old street of Xiaojian Village, Dongyuan Township, Shangli County. The cartoon covers an area of 6 square meters and was created in the 1930s by the Political Department of the 7th Regiment of the 9th Division of the Red 16th Army.

The ancestral hall, with a construction area of 200 square meters, faces south. The protected area extends 10 meters around the painting, the construction control zone extends 20 meters around the painting, and the construction control height is limited to 10 meters.

The painting is on the wall of the Xiao Family Ancestral Hall, which is privately owned. Due to long-term disrepair, villager Xiao planned to demolish the old ancestral hall and build a new house in 2007. After consultations among cultural relics authorities, local government, and the homeowner, it was agreed that the old structure would be demolished and replaced. To preserve the original appearance, the county’s cultural relics department invited experts from the Ganzhou Museum to mount, restore, and repaint the slogans and cartoons, which were then preserved in the county’s cultural relics department.
