Changhong Zhimu

Changhong Zhimu is a cultural relic protection unit of Shangli County.

Changhong Zhimu is located in Baihe Village, Jinshan Town, Shangli County, within the garden of a former general of the Kuomintang. With an age of over a thousand years, it is intertwined with a similarly aged podocarpus, and is thus also called the "Lovers' Tree." It is a rare national treasure — the only plant in China that blooms four times a year. Most red-flowered zhimu plants in gardens and nurseries across Hunan and Jiangxi provinces were grafted from this one. After being featured in the People's Daily in 1986, people from all over the country came to admire its beauty.
