Huangyaguan

Located on Dongshan Mountain, 30 kilometers north of Jixian County, Huangyaguan stretches from Malanyu in Zunhua, Hebei in the east to Jiangjun Pass in Pinggu County, Beijing in the west. The Huangyaguan section of the Great Wall was first built during the Sui Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasty, after Qi Jiguang was appointed as the General of Jizhen, he renovated the wall, added enemy towers, but later the walls and towers collapsed. It was not until 1987, when Tianjin reconstructed the Great Wall, that this section regained its majestic appearance. The main tourist areas of Huangyaguan Great Wall include two parts: Huangyaguan and Taipingzhai. Huangyaguan: It is the main pass and gateway between Jixian County and Xinglong County in Hebei Province along the Great Wall, and also the only fortress within Jixian County. The fortress is flanked by steep cliffs on both the east and west sides, with rugged and imposing mountain terrain, epitomizing the saying “one man can hold the pass against ten thousand.” It has always been a strategic military location. Taipingzhai: Located about 10 kilometers southeast of Huangyaguan in Ancun, at an altitude of 400–500 meters, it overlooks the deep valleys and mountains east of Huangyaguan Fortress. In front of the barbican square at the entrance of the Taipingzhai Great Wall scenic area stands a more than 8-meter-tall stone statue of Qi Jiguang, dressed in military attire and exuding nobility. Taipingzhai is famous for the diverse forms of its Great Wall watchtowers—some built with stone slabs, others with bricks and timber, some hollow, some solid, some square, some round, showcasing a rich variety of styles. Transportation: From Tianjin, there are two trains to Jixian County daily, one at 7:30 AM and the other at 7:00 PM, taking about three hours.
