Introduction

The Limuotai Natural Scenic Area is located at the northernmost tip of Tianjin, often referred to as the "North Pole of Tianjin." The area features majestic and rugged peaks, serene forests, long-flowing pools and waterfalls, and vines climbing and intertwining, creating unique natural scenery. Experts and scholars have praised it as the "Shennongjia of Tianjin." The area boasts peculiar geological landscapes and is part of Ji County’s national geopark, showcasing classic quartzite peak forest canyon landforms. Naturally formed features include Rock Painting Ridge, Heaven-Climbing Seam, Five-Finger Mountain, and the Ten Thousand Volume Heavenly Book.

The Limuotai Natural Scenic Area in Ji County is one of the three major scenic areas of Tianjin Jiulongshan National Forest Park. It is located north of Chuanxiangyu Village, Xiaying Town, Ji County, about 35 kilometers from the county town. The scenic area covers a total of 7,000 acres and has a large expanse of wild azaleas. These azaleas belong to the Rhododendron mucronulatum species, a deciduous shrub that blooms in early spring. When in full bloom, the mountains are covered in red, hence the name "Mountain Azalea." The azaleas in Limuotai typically bloom for about a month, with the best viewing period being mid-April.

Xiaying Town has a long history, having been established for about 1,500 years, originally known as "Huangya Camp." To the south lies Qitou Mountain, acting as a screen; to the southwest are the historical sites of Qishan Lan Shui Cave; to the north are the ruins of the Dragon King Temple, Zhenwu Temple, and Guandi Temple. Legend has it that Xiaying Town was first built during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods to defend against the Xiongnu. The imperial court built a stone city here with three gates—east, west, and south—and stationed soldiers for protection. In the 48th year of the Ming Dynasty's Wanli era, the camp was rebuilt, using massive stones from Qishan to fortify the walls.
