Xiayang Hundred Patience Hall

Xiayang Hundred Patience Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

Xiayang Hundred Patience Hall is located on General Street in Xiayang Town, Yanping District, Nanping City, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Also known as the Ancestral Hall of the Zhang Family in Xiayang, it was first built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and rebuilt during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1736–1795). Along the central axis are, in sequence, the gate courtyard, gate tower, entrance hall (with a stage), courtyard, and main hall. The gate tower is a four-pillar, three-bay, three-mountain-dropping, memorial archway-style structure with exquisite brick carvings; the inner lintel of the main gate and the Qing Dynasty murals preserved behind the gate are in good condition, and the walls are inlaid with steles such as the “Fenxian Trial Verdict” and “County Magistrate Qin’s Trial Statement.”

Protected area: An extension of 20 meters outward from all sides of the building.

In 2018, Xiayang Hundred Patience Hall was announced by the People’s Government of Fujian Province as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.

Xiayang Town: Xiayang Town is a famous historical and cultural town and a key commercial hub in Fujian Province, as well as an important grain-producing area in Yanping District. It is located northwest of Nanping City in Fujian Province, about 48 kilometers from downtown Nanping. To the east it connects with Mangdang Town, to the south it borders Wangtai Town, to the west it meets Shunchang County, and to the north it neighbors Jian’ou. The town is embraced by Yuping Mountain and Zhaoke Mountain, and the Fulong Stream runs through the entire area, hence the name derived from the saying “two mountains and one river make a gorge, mountains to the south and water to the north make yang.” The area has a mid-subtropical monsoon climate, with no severe summer heat or winter cold, an average annual temperature of 19.3°C, annual precipitation of 1600 mm, and a frost-free period of over 280 days.
