Wangtai Revolutionary Site Cluster

The Wangtai Revolutionary Site Cluster is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Wangtai Revolutionary Site Cluster is located in Wangtai Village, Shangxikou Village, and Xihou Village of Wangtai Town, Yanping District, Nanping City, dating back to 1933–1935.

Description: It consists of four parts — the site of the Wangtai Negotiations (Octagonal Building), the site where the Standing Committee of the Min-Gan Provincial Committee of the Central Soviet Area held meetings (Zhubao Nunnery), the site of the Xikou Soviet Revolutionary Committee, and the site of the Eastern Army Field Hospital (Huang Family Ancestral Hall). In August 1933, the Third Corps (Eastern Army) of the First Front Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, under the leadership of Commander Peng Dehuai and Political Commissar Teng Daiyuan, liberated Wangtai Town and set up its headquarters at the town’s Grand Temple (now Wangtai Grain Station), with the field hospital located in the Huang Family Ancestral Hall. In September 1933, the Eastern Army held negotiations with Chen Gongpei, a representative of the 19th Route Army, at the Octagonal Building in Wangtai, leading to a cessation of military action and spurring the 19th Route Army to launch the anti-Chiang “Fujian Incident,” which eventually contributed to the establishment of the “People’s Revolutionary Government of Fujian.” In March 1935, Zhong Xunren, Secretary of the Min-Gan Provincial Committee, convened a standing committee meeting at Zhubao Nunnery to discuss operational plans such as advancing into southern Fujian and establishing contact with local party organizations. Alongside their military successes, the Eastern Army also established a Soviet regime in Wangtai Town — the Xikou Soviet Revolutionary Committee.

Protected area: Each individual structure is protected within a 20-meter radius extending outward from its perimeter.

In 2018, the Wangtai Revolutionary Site Cluster was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the Fujian Provincial People’s Government.
