Yu Weixin was born in 1915 (the 4th year of the Republic of China) in Chāngpúyáng Village, Túbǎo, Nánpíng City (now Chāngshàng Village, Tāqián Township). His father was a village doctor. In the spring of 1925 (the 14th year of the Republic), Yu Weixin attended Yingzhang Primary School in Shierdu, Youxi. In 1929 (the 18th year of the Republic), he was admitted to the Public Middle School of Northern Fujian in Nánpíng, and transferred to Jiàn'ōu Middle School the following autumn.
