Lulan Qingsha Scenic Area

Lulan Qingsha Scenic Area derives its name from its location at the foot of Lulan Mountain on the northern part of Daishan Island. It is 14 kilometers from the county town of Gao Ting and serves both as a tourist development zone and one of the ancient “Ten Scenes of Penglai.” It is a natural large-scale beach resort and beach activity center. The entire scenic area consists of Lulan Qingsha Beach, Xufu Pavilion, Niluo Mountain, Qing...

Lulan Qingsha stretches 3.6 kilometers in length, runs north to south, and is 150 meters wide from east to west, with a water-covered section over 200 meters wide, making it the longest beach along the Jiangsu-Zhejiang coast. The beach has a gentle slope and broad expanse, with the seawater reaching only chest-high several hundred meters out. During high tide, the waves are large and loud, creating a majestic atmosphere; during low tide, the waters are calm and serene. The sand is iron-gray in color, fine yet slightly hard, and contains various minerals beneficial to certain skin conditions. Due to the hardness of the sand, vehicles can drive on the beach, earning it the nickname “Ten-Thousand-Step Iron Plate Sand.” The beach is surrounded by beautiful peaks on three sides, with “Niluo Mountain,” a small islet within the sands, in the middle, and uniquely shaped reefs all around. Nearby lies a “Cock’s Comb Reef,” named for its resemblance to a rooster’s comb. At dawn, standing on the beach and viewing the sunrise over the East China Sea through the Cock’s Comb Reef, as the red sun rises above the sea amid colorful clouds, offers a uniquely delightful experience. The Qing Dynasty poet Liu Menglan once wrote a poem in praise: “A stretch of flat sand winds round the sea’s edge; by Lulan Mountain lies a famed retreat. Let plain white silk glow bright as morning light, and paint the wild geese flying o’er the stream so bright.”

Ocean Amusement Park

Currently, many activities are open to visitors, including music teahouses, snack bars, various marine and beach activities, barbecues, beach horseback riding, yurts, beach go-karts, campsites, activity teahouses, rental of various types of bath equipment, freshwater showers, and fishing gear rentals. Within the beach area, there is a 1,100-square-meter “Qingsha Hotel” that provides food and accommodation services, attracting large numbers of tourists every year to “play in the water and ride the tides.”

Xufu Pavilion

Xufu Pavilion is located on a small hill at the entrance of the Ocean Amusement Park. The pavilion covers an area of about 80 square meters and features a classical-style double-layered, four-cornered structure built with white stone, surrounded by stone railings. The pillars of the pavilion bear a couplet that reads: “Mooring the boat, I wish to visit the Daoist Xu; across the water, I call to Mei Zhen.” Inside the pavilion stands a stele embraced by two dragons, exquisitely carved from bluestone. The inscription records the connection between Xu Fu’s quest for immortality and the ancient name “Penglai” of Daishan. The stele’s title was inscribed by Li Lianqing, president of the China Xu Fu Association. From the pavilion, visitors can gaze out at the sea and overlook the entire beach. The sea breeze brushing against your face brings a sense of openness and tranquility.

Niluo Mountain

Located within Lulan Qingsha, this mountain covers an area of about 6,000 square meters and is a small islet within the sands. Surrounded by beach on three sides and facing the sea on the other, it looks from afar like a huge mud snail crawling toward the ocean—hence its name. Atop the mountain lies the former site of the Xingma Stone Viewing Platform, a cultural landmark. Historical records indicate that in the late Sui Dynasty, Emperor Yang of Sui sought to expand his territory. General Chen Ling led over ten thousand troops to conquer Liuqiu (present-day Taiwan), passing through Daishan and setting up camp in the Lulan Qingsha area. There, they performed a seven-day horse-sacrificing ritual to pray to the heavens. Soon after, they conquered Liuqiu, and Emperor Yang awarded Chen Ling the title of “Right Guanglu Grand Master.” To commemorate him, locals later built the “General Chen Temple” nearby, and the story of “General Chen Sacrificing Horses to the Heavens Before Conquering Liuqiu” has been passed down to this day. In 1998, the large-scale TV series “The Legend of Xu Fu’s Eastward Crossing,” produced by the Zhejiang TV Drama Production Center, filmed scenes such as Emperor Qin Shi Huang praying to the sea to send off Xu Fu, the departure of the eastward fleet, and the eastward crossing camp here.
