Daishan Island

Daishan Island is located in Housha Yang in the northeast of Daishan Island and is named after its position at the foot of Lulan Mountain. The beach stretches 3,600 meters from north to south and about 500 meters from east to west. The sand is fine and firm, with a gently sloping, iron-gray shoreline, hence its reputation as the “Ten-Thousand-Step Iron Sand.” A Qing Dynasty poet, Liu Menglan, once praised it in verse: “A stretch of flat sand winds around the sea’s edge, at the foot of Lulan Mountain lies a famed place. Let pure white silk shine bright like brocade, to paint the wild geese flying over rivers and lakes.” Mr. Zhao Puchu, after visiting the beach, exclaimed in admiration: “An oriental wonder, rarely seen in China.”

Currently, the uniquely designed “Qingsha Ocean Paradise” has been built on this beach, equipped with facilities such as tea houses, convenience stores, high-speed yachts, and a beach bathing area.

A variety of beach activities are offered: offshore shooting ranges, net fishing for fish and shrimp, beach go-karting, volleyball, soccer matches, and playing in the surf—ensuring visitors have an unforgettable experience.

Transportation

I. External Transportation

From Shanghai: At 7:30 am, you can take an express ferry from the tourist hub near the terminus of Bus 43 by Nanpu Bridge (recommended itinerary: bus to Luchaogang (1 hour), then high-speed ferry to Daishan (2 hours), total fare 110 RMB per person). Arrival in Daishan is around 11:30–12:00 am.

From Ningbo: Drive from downtown Ningbo, cross the Zhoushan Cross-Sea Bridge in about 50 minutes, then take a ferry from Sanjiang Wharf, also about 50 minutes to reach Daishan.

II. Internal Transportation

Daishan has launched Tourist Bus Line 1, which passes key stops such as Shanwai Passenger Terminal, New District Bus Station, Typhoon Museum, Xia’ao Homestay Village, and Dongsha Ancient Town. Ticket prices range from 5 to 10 RMB. First and last buses run from 8:15 to 17:30. Once you arrive in Daishan, remember not to rent a car, as local transportation fares are quite expensive.
